GLP and Portman light up TYGA in Sydney and Melbourne

Revitalised rapper Tyga recently released his seventh studio album, “Legendary,” his first on EMPIRE after breaking from the major label world and to celebrate the album’s release, the rapper made his way to Australia this past October. The rapper exclusively headlined shows in Melbourne & Sydney at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion followed by a performance at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne.

A major part of Tyga’s set for both shows was the lighting rig supplied by Creative Productions with production manager and LD for the shows being take care by Integratd. The lighting rig included GLP JDC-1 strobes, impression X4 Bar 20’s and Portman P2 Hexaline fixtures.

The GLP impression X4 Bar 20 is a high performance batten that incorporates 15 Watt RGBW LEDs packed tightly to give a full line of light. “I used the batten fixtures to uplight Tyga and the other artists on stage performing as they didn’t want it to be too bright on stage,” stated Arian Yeganeh. “So as Tyga moved up and down the stage I tilted and zoomed the X4 bars to match his movements. The X4 Bar has high quality optics that ensure a smooth, homogenized output across the batten through a broad pallet of pastel and saturated colours, complimented by GLP’s exceptional dimming which ensures that there is no colour shift, just smooth even fades.”

In combination with the X4 Bar 20’s, JDC-1 strobes were also utilised for Tyga’s set. “As for the JDC1s they have been a perfect way of getting some big colour washes and strobe from upstage with half the amount of fixtures. The JDC allows us to wash and strobe with the same fixtures,” stated Arian.

The JDC1 contains a traditional single tube element with an incredible clear, bright white output and combines that with a surrounding full face of RGB LED power, utilizing 1.320 high quality LED’s. “The possibilities are endless as these two elements have independent control and can be used as separate pieces, or combined for stunning effects.
Along with working as a powerful strobe light, both the tube and the full face sections can be run continuously for high output blinder and wash light effects”

To round off the Portman P2 Hexaline was also implemented in the lighting rig. The P2 Hexaline has built in dimmers and electronic kit with 6 x 230W halogen bulbs. “The P2 fixtures are great for a classic halogen retro look and tungsten warmth creating a proper show atmosphere,” commented Arian. “The P2 enabled warm, big impact looks and I could get a full visual impact by using the P2s to frame the artist on stage.”
